9:30 to 11:30 ROI’s Annual Report to the Region

At this year’s annual report to our regional stakeholders and partners, ROI will share the impact of the work that has been undertaken during the past 12 months. We will announce next steps and new funding opportunities for education, workforce and quality of place initiatives. Carnegie Dartlet will also join us to reveal the results of the competitive positioning and brand identity work completed on behalf of the region.

12:00 to 1:15 Lunch, Ready Schools Update, and Regional Award Presentations

Over lunch, educators and an employer from each of the three 2017-2018 Ready Schools teams will talk about their work to date and how it is impacting their communities. Following this update, ROI will present its first annual awards for regional leadership, collaboration, and talent innovation.

Breakout A – Sharing Our Story: A Southwest Central Indiana Brand Messaging Workshop

Description: Carnegie Dartlet will engage participants in an interactive workshop designed to help organizations use the story of our region to support their work in a way that is locally and regionally relevant. Carnegie Dartlet will share a series of storylines and dimensions that can be used widely by a variety of stakeholders.

Who Should Attend: representatives of economic development, tourism, chambers of commerce, government, industry, human resources, education, and nonprofits. This session is relevant for anyone who is telling a story of opportunity in our region. We encourage all who live, work, play, or invest in this region to attend this or the 2:45 session.

Breakout B – Addressing A Barrier to Regional Success: Rural Broadband

Description: Legislation in the last two statehouse sessions has created opportunity for rural communities to address access to broadband. In this session, panelists will provide useful information for communities looking to address broadband challenges and also share a rural success story.

Panelists: Senator Eric Koch, District 44 and Scott Rudd, Town Manager, Nashville, Indiana

Who Should Attend: representatives of rural development, economic development, elected officials, chambers of commerce, education, and nonprofits.

Breakout C – Creating A Competent Talent Pool For SWCI: A Roundtable for Employers and Educators to Collaboratively Define Work Readiness

Description: In March, employers from across the region assembled to identify key attributes needed by recent high school graduates. Collectively, these industry representatives defined a set of characteristics, ranging from accountability to adaptability, necessary for graduates to succeed in the workplace. Following a brief panel discussion, educators and employers will engage in roundtable discussions to develop strategies for helping ensure students graduate with the competencies most valued by employers.

Who Should Attend: employers, superintendents, out-of-school time providers, post-secondary, counselors, adult education, other educators, and parents.
