The mission of Regional Opportunity Initiatives (ROI) is to advance economic and community prosperity in the 11 counties of the Indiana Uplands (Brown, Crawford, Daviess, Dubois, Greene, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Orange, Owen, and Washington counties). ROI is growing potential and possibility through a focus on advanced industry sectors, regionalism, transformative school and workforce redesign, and placemaking strategies.
Job Summary
With funding support from the National Imperative for Industrial Skills (NIIS), ROI is launching a multi-year, multi-layered microelectronics (ME) education and workforce initiative. NIIS is an initiative of the U.S. Department of Defense’s Office for Industrial Policy through its Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment (IBAS) program.
ROI will lead this new initiative in the Indiana Uplands, addressing the nation’s critical need to increase ME production and develop skilled talent. Rural Indiana Workforce Development for Microelectronics leverages ROI’s public-private partnerships with industry, manufacturing, K-12 education, community colleges, post-secondary institutions, and local/state/federal agencies to promote and expand ME training, education, and career pathways.
ROI is seeking an experienced and committed K-12 educator with a STEM background, strong relationship-building skills, and a passion for inspiring the next generation of educators and students. The K-12 Outreach Lead Teacher will develop and deliver dynamic STEM education experiences for K-12 classrooms, allowing these professionals to integrate real-world ME learning into K-12 classrooms across the region. This position will lead the planning, curriculum development, partnerships with K-12 Uplands school districts, and the overall implementation of outreach programming.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging STEM lessons and hands-on activities for K-12 classrooms focused on ME, utilizing physical classroom space, mobile units, collaborative tools, and virtual simulation interfaces.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with K-12 educators, school administrators, and industry partners to accelerate the integration of ME learning into classrooms.
- Collaborate with the program’s team and associated programs on a regular basis to contribute to enhancements and ensure fidelity to the goals.
- Organize networking opportunities for educators engaged in K-12 ME outreach programming.
- Select and utilize training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for learning or teaching new concepts.
- Provide professional development and training for teachers to support the implementation of ME activities.
- Organize and facilitate student and educator visits to ME facilities and host industry-led classroom sessions.
- Manage the logistics of ME mobile unit scheduling, transport, setup, and maintenance.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of programming through surveys, feedback, and data collection.
- Stay informed on emerging trends and technologies in STEM and ME education to enhance program offerings.
- Support ROI efforts to pursue and sustain funding, including grant writing and reporting.
- Effectively contribute to ROI’s shared activities, through concept papers, conference presentations, and panel discussions.
Education, Qualifications, & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in education, a STEM discipline, a related field, or a combination of related experience and education.
- Minimum of 3 years of K-12 teaching experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, hands-on teaching methodologies, and innovative pedagogy.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to build partnerships with educators, administrators, and industry professionals.
- Familiarity with evidence-based pedagogical practices.
- Familiarity with Indiana high school pathways and diploma requirements.
- Experience in managing outreach programs or similar initiatives.
- Empathy, humility, and a collaborative mindset.
- Commitment to perseverance in challenging situations.
- Valid Indiana driver’s license.

Job Location
Time will be distributed between the Bloomington office, a central training facility currently being developed at WestGate Technology Park, and K-12 schools throughout the Indiana Uplands region. Occasional travel outside the region may be required for in-state and out-of-state conferences and professional development opportunities, travel costs will be reimbursed, including mileage at the current federal rate.
