ROI will share updates on progress across the Indiana Uplands region in the areas of education, workforce, and quality of place. Leaders from the region’s three key industry sectors – advanced manufacturing, national security & defense, and life sciences – will share their perspective on the current state of their industries and expectations for growth. Over lunch, ROI will welcome keynote speaker Danny Lopez, Chairman of the Governor’s Workforce Cabinet. Mr. Lopez previously served as the Governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff and has been deeply engaged in the development of workforce strategies for the State of Indiana. He will speak about Indiana’s workforce priorities, the role of the Governor’s Workforce Cabinet, and provide an update on related legislation. ROI will also present the 2019 Regional Innovation Awards over lunch. The awards recognize meaningful improvements to education, economic development, and/or quality of place within the 11 counties of the Indiana Uplands region. These awards will highlight the amazing people and organizations working to make the Indiana Uplands a terrific place to work, live, learn, and play! Morning and afternoon breakout sessions will allow participants to delve deeper into topics. Sessions will address a wide variety of topics to advance economic and community prosperity, including workforce recruitment and retention, student-run businesses, internships and apprenticeships, career pathways and exploration, housing strategies, quality of place initiatives, and more.
