Skilled IT workers are in high demand in Southwest Central Indiana.
The Skill UP! IT internship program places IT focused college students with regional employers utilizing a 3/2 work and learn model. The objective of the program is to establish a pipeline of highly qualified and work-ready IT professionals who are prepared to meet the current and growing industry demand for skilled IT talent across the region.
The 3/2 model is designed to allow students to attend classes three days a week and work two days a week with an industry partner. During the first semester, students receive a $1,500 scholarship for coursework leading to IT certification. Following successful completion of the first semester of coursework, students receive coaching and soft skills training in preparation for a successful 3/2 work and learn experience. During the internship, students are paid $12/hour x 16 hours/week for 14 weeks.
Industry partners also supply non-binding letters of intent to hire, indicating that the industry partner fully intends to provide a job opportunity to the participant if they successfully complete the work and learn experience and the IT certification or degree program.
The Skill UP! Work and Learn Internship Program is a partnership of Regional Opportunity Initiatives, Ivy Tech Community College – Bloomington, Vincennes University, Indiana University, and the Indiana Department for Workforce Development. ROI’s Skill UP! is one 12 across the state in 2016 to receive Indiana Department for Workforce Development Skill UP funding.
